Bhikkhu Paññākāra & Aloka

Bhikkhu Paññākāra & Aloka // Hương Đạo Vipassana Bhavana Center

Bhikkhu Paññākāra (Sư Tuệ Nhân) is a Vietnamese Theravāda Buddhist monk and spiritual teacher associated with the Hương Đạo Vipassana Bhavana Center in Texas, where he serves as vice abbot. He is best known for leading international peace pilgrimages aimed at promoting non-violence, mindfulness, and compassion.

Before entering monastic life, he worked as an engineer. After ordaining in the Theravāda tradition, he devoted himself to intensive vipassanā meditation practice and to living in accordance with the Vinaya (monastic discipline). His teaching is grounded in direct experience, simplicity, and the daily cultivation of mindfulness.

He gained wide recognition through his walking pilgrimages for peace. In 2022, he completed a 112-day barefoot meditative journey across India, during which he was joined by a dog named Aloka—who has since become a constant companion on his path. His most well-known undertaking is the “Walk for Peace” (2025–2026), a 108-day pilgrimage of approximately 3,700 kilometers from Texas to Washington, D.C., joined by an international group of monks. Along the way, they engaged with communities, offering blessings in Pali, brief teachings, and a message of unity and inner peace.

Bhikkhu Paññākāra is distinguished by his calm presence and openness to human connection. His approach combines traditional monastic discipline with active engagement in the world. He emphasizes that peace is not a destination, but a practice to be lived in every moment.
